Meredith Pollack, USTPA/PTR Certified Professional and Tennis Coordinator

Meredith has been with the Park District since 1997 when she first started working with the Adult Competitive Program.  Since then she has gone on to teach all ages and ability levels, along with designing new and creative offerings.  She has been coaching full time for more than twenty years and has been active with the USTA as a tournament director, zonal coach, and league team captain.  Just this year, she has assumed the role of Tennis Coordinator which will have her overseeing the Park District’s tennis programs.  Meredith has developed players in the Naperville area who have gone on to college careers, some have become successful coaches themselves, and many have discovered a true love of the game by enjoying continued improvement and personal growth over time.  Meredith brings her vast experience from club tennis, having worked at some of the best clubs in the city and suburbs.  She began her career in Chicago at Lakeshore Athletic Club.  She then taught at Four Lakes Athletic Club, Forest Grove Athletic Club, and continues to coach at Naperville Tennis Club (where she has been on staff for 19 years).  She has specialized with adult travel team, youth 10 and under, high performance, and cardio tennis.  Meredith is on a hybrid maternity leave from on-court teaching for the fall of 2020 and hopes to return to coaching in the spring of 2021.


Barb Rueth, USPTA/PTR Certified Professional

We welcome Barb Rueth to the tennis coaching staff. She specializes in staff development and youth progression. She has trained various Park District’s instructors and PE teachers in the Chicagoland area for the past 10 years. Barb is PTR and USPTA certified, achieving the PTR’s Master of Tennis Junior Development certification. She will be working with the NPD staff as well stepping in to assist with classes and provide private instruction as needed.  Barb also teaches indoors at Naperville Tennis Club and started the 10u program at Wheaton Sport Center, in addition to working as Junior Play Director for the Chicago District Tennis Association.  She played Division I college tennis at Marquette University. 


Lisa LaHam, PTR Certified Professional

Coach Lisa continues in her 15th year with the Naperville Park District.  Lisa is specially certified by the USTA for Cardio Tennis and has also been certified to deliver USTA 10U coaching.  Coach Lisa has experience working with all ages and abilities, and brings her extensive experience as a competitive player to her drills.  Players in her cardio class rave about the great workouts they enjoy with playing creative and fun games.  Lisa has developed both beginner and intermediate adult players over the past 15 years that have gone on to play competitively with higher level drills, leagues, and travel teams.  Lisa is a PTR Certified coach and believes that tennis a great sport for all who want to challenge themselves mentally and physically, while having a blast on the court. 


Lisa McAlpine, PTR Certified Professional

Lisa brings 22 plus years of teaching experience from the Naperville Park District as well as the Naperville Tennis Club. She teaches both competitive adult and junior classes. Lisa is PTR certified with her emphasis in 10 and Under.  She is also USTA trained for Cardio Tennis.  Lisa has been actively playing tennis in Naperville from her years training in local programs as a junior, to having played high school tennis at Naperville Central, to her continued commitment to sharing her love of the game as coach.  Lisa remains a competitor too and has been playing travel team tennis for years.


Sisay Selassie, PTR Certified Professional

Coach Sisay continues in his 4th year with the Park District.  Sisay was a top-ranked junior player who held the #1 singles sport on Naperville Central’s Varisty squad from 1999 - 2002.  He went on to play Division I college tennis at Western Illinois University.  Sisay taught fulltime at Challenge Fitness and 5Star, while also recently becoming a proud stay at home dad to two little ones.  Sisay has been a part of coaching the Adult Competitive program and brings his years of high energy club tennis drills to the court.  He is also a versatile private instructor who can develop players at any age or ability level.   Sisay enjoys working with both adult and junior players and believes that tennis is a gift for a lifetime.

On Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2011 Naperville Park District officials heard the good news for which they have been waiting for many months: the District has achieved national accreditation through the National Recreation and Parks Association (NRPA).

The decision was announced at the NRPA national conference in Atlanta following a formal hearing before the Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA).

Naperville is only the second park district in Illinois to earn this distinction and the 104th nationally accredited agency in the nation; there are more than 10,000 recreation agencies in the United States. The Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies accredits a handful of park agencies each year that have completed a multi-step process involving a self-review by the agency, a site visit, and an evaluation and formal report by the Commission.

“We are extremely proud to bring this honor to Naperville,” said Park District Executive Director Ray McGury. “It’s an affirmation of our high standards and also an encouragement to continue bringing high quality recreation and parks experiences to our community.”

The Park District’s accreditation process began approximately one year ago and included an extensive self-evaluation by staff and a 5-day visit from CAPRA reviewers this past July. Maintaining the accreditation requires annual reports and 5- and 10-year reviews.

Park District staff members noted that the CAPRA process has helped them see the big picture, focus on long term goals and plans, review plans more regularly, organize documents so that they are accessible and useable, and collaborate more effectively with other departments and outside organizations.
