Jan. 4 Community Job Fair Gives Students and Adults Head Start on 2020 Jobs

Individuals seeking summer, seasonal or year-round, part-time employment are invited to learn more about job opportunities at area businesses and at the Naperville Park District by attending the 2020 Community Job Fair co-hosted by the Naperville Park District and KidsMatter.

The Job Fair will be held from 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 4 at Fort Hill Activity Center in the gymnasium, first floor, located at 20 Fort Hill Drive in Naperville. This is a free event and is intended for a variety of job seekers, from high school students (ages 15 and up) to senior adults.

KidsMatter will offer mock interviews, resume building and other workforce preparation for both high school and college students. The job fair was planned for early January so that students who are home on winter break could attend.

The 2020 Job Fair also will include opportunities for retirees and other adults seeking part-time work. For example, park maintenance and golf course maintenance positions at the Naperville Park District can be ideal for retirees who are looking for a flexible schedule. Additionally, positions at Fort Hill Activity Center and in recreation programs often have flexible daytime schedules. As in 2019, lifeguard positions in 2020 will be structured in shorter shifts with the option of shallow water only positions or full facility positions.

“We look forward to hosting the Community Job Fair with KidsMatter to assist jobseekers, fill current job opportunities at a wide variety of area businesses.  We encourage people to attend and explore the employment opportunities, even if they don’t know exactly what type of job they want. We are especially excited to get an early start in filling our seasonal positions with job fair attendees,” said Katie Sepe, Director of Human Resources for the Naperville Park District.

On Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2011 Naperville Park District officials heard the good news for which they have been waiting for many months: the District has achieved national accreditation through the National Recreation and Parks Association (NRPA).

The decision was announced at the NRPA national conference in Atlanta following a formal hearing before the Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA).

Naperville is only the second park district in Illinois to earn this distinction and the 104th nationally accredited agency in the nation; there are more than 10,000 recreation agencies in the United States. The Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies accredits a handful of park agencies each year that have completed a multi-step process involving a self-review by the agency, a site visit, and an evaluation and formal report by the Commission.

“We are extremely proud to bring this honor to Naperville,” said Park District Executive Director Ray McGury. “It’s an affirmation of our high standards and also an encouragement to continue bringing high quality recreation and parks experiences to our community.”

The Park District’s accreditation process began approximately one year ago and included an extensive self-evaluation by staff and a 5-day visit from CAPRA reviewers this past July. Maintaining the accreditation requires annual reports and 5- and 10-year reviews.

Park District staff members noted that the CAPRA process has helped them see the big picture, focus on long term goals and plans, review plans more regularly, organize documents so that they are accessible and useable, and collaborate more effectively with other departments and outside organizations.
