Naperville Park District Promotes National Sportsmanship Day on March 7
Sunday, March 5, 2023
March 7 is National Sportsmanship Day, established by the International Sports Institute in 1991 "to promote good sportsmanship around the country and to set high standards for future generations of athletes." The Naperville Park District will promote good sportsmanship in its communications and programs this spring to remind athletes, parents, spectators and coaches of the importance of fair play, teamwork, good etiquette and respect for others.
At its February 27, 2020 meeting, the Naperville Park District Board of Commissioners passed a resolution that promotes the importance of good sportsmanship District-wide. Actions authorized by the resolution include the following:
. Observe National Sportsmanship Day annually on the first Tuesday of March
. Remind participants, coaches, parents and spectators of the District's expectations related to conduct and good sportsmanship through training, program materials and a variety of media
. Create awareness in the community of the District's emphasis on good sportsmanship and its benefits for everyone.
Participants in the District's athletic programs learn and practice athletic skills, social skills, teamwork and good sportsmanship. Observance of National Sportsmanship Day will reinforce the District's commitment to the sportsmanship initiative, and supports the District's core value of Personal Growth and Enrichment.
