Nature-Themed Birthday Parties

Then choose a nature-themed birthday party at Knoch Knolls Nature Center!

Offered Saturdays starting at 10 am or 1 pm
Most parties are for children ages 6-12 years old; see party descriptions for any specific age restrictions.
The two-hour party starts with a 90-minute guided program, led by a naturalist, with the remaining 30 minutes reserved for the cupcakes, other food and/or presents.
Parents/hosts are responsible for the last 30 minutes of the party, including serving food and supervising children.
We provide themed invitations, vanilla and/or chocolate cupcakes from DeEtta's Bakery, white paper products, utensils, candles, and one themed party favor for each child.
You may provide additional small snacks and drinks. No outside catering is allowed for nature birthday parties.
Party cost is $289(R)/$319(NR).
Up to 12 guests/children, including the birthday child.
Up to 4 adults allowed per party.
The party area may be decorated, but no glue, tacks or tape are permitted on the walls or windows. Balloons are not allowed during nature birthday parties. If you would like to purchase specific theme-related tablecloths, our round tables (3) and rectangular tables (2) are 5’ in length.

All About Owls

Owls are awesome! They live everywhere – in deserts, mountains, wetlands, forests, prairies, and even the arctic tundra. Learn about the owls that live here year round and some that might visit in the winter, touch their feathers, play owl games, dissect an owl pellet and make a cool owl craft. Offered year-round.

Diggin’ Dinosaurs

Dinosaurs were some of the largest land animals to ever live, ruling the earth for 150 million years! About 65 million years ago they disappeared and left nothing but fossils behind. Investigate how a paleontologist finds evidence of dinosaurs and which dinosaur is biggest. Then "dig" for your own dinosaur fossil and play a predator/prey dinosaur game. Offered year-round.

Flowers, Butterflies and Bees

Enter the colorful and sweet smelling world of flowers and their friends, the butterflies and bees! Insects are necessary for pollination of most flowers; without their pollination services our world would be less colorful and delicious (think fruits and vegetables)! Search for native flowers and their insect partners, play pollination games and create a flowery craft. Offered May – September.

Insect Investigations

Some scientists estimate there are 200 million insects for each person on earth! Become an entomologist for the day as you search for insects under rocks, in the trees and flying though the air. Learn about insect body parts and their life cycles, catch and release bugs using a butterfly net, play buggy games and make an insect craft. Offered May – September.

Meet the Animals

Meet the nature center animals up close and personal! During this party you’ll learn all about the nature center’s fish, reptiles and amphibians. Discover which animal leads two lives – one in water and one on land and compare the features of each animal group. Go on animal scavenger hunt, watch the fish being fed, touch the snake or the turtle, and observe our salamander eating. Wrap up the party by making an animal craft to remember your experience. Offered year-round.

River Explorations

Enter the watery world full of invisible critters! Collect tiny animals and plants from the pond and river using scientific tools like plankton nets, dip nets and seines. Observe these animals and plants using a magnifying glass or microscope, then check out the freshwater fish in our aquarium as they are being fed and make a river critter craft to take home. Rubber boots are provided. Offered May – September. Please note, if the water level is too high to safely enter the river, or if the weather is inclement, another party, Meet the Animals, will be presented instead.
