Tiger Salamanders Love to Eat

Our two Tiger Salamanders aren't nearly as active as our other animals in the nature center, but they do move when it's dinnertime!

In the wild, Tiger Salamanders spend most of their time underground and are active at night.

Like frogs, they have a tongue that's attached at the front of their mouths, to help them grab their food.

In the wild they would eat just about anything they could catch, and swallow.

We feed our two salamanders earthworms, and as a treat, smaller juicy wax worms.

In captivity Tiger Salamanders can get a bit chubby.

Our salamanders don't eat every day. We feed them three times a week.

Check out this video of our female salamander, named Tiger, eating an earthworm!
