Celebrate National Pumpkin Day

Monday, October 26 is National Pumpkin Day!

  • Pumpkins are a type of winter squash.
  • They are the one of the oldest domesticated plants and native to North America.
  • An iconic feature of fall in the U.S., Illinois grows more pumpkins than any other state! 
  • Pumpkin flesh and pumpkin seeds are considered powerhouse foods. Pumpkins provide high levels of vitamins A & C, fiber and antioxidants.
  • Different types of pumpkins are used for carving versus eating.
  • Pumpkins come in variety of colors but many are a deep yellow to vivid orange in color.
  • Pumpkins are actually a fruit!
