Can you find the water bird in this photo?

Over the past few days we have seen this bird hanging out by the edge of the open water in the pond.

(Last fall we added three aerators to the pond to help reduce algae in the summer and add oxygen to the pond during the winter.)

This Great Blue Heron is fishing and some visitors saw it grab and eat a frog from the nearby creek before it made its way to the pond!

Great Blue Herons may migrate a bit further south during the winter but as long at they find open water, and food, they can spend the winter months here.

They use their sharp, spear-like bills to stab prey and then swallow it whole, sometimes tossing their food into the air before catching it.
