Naperville Park District Awarded $400,000 OSLAD Grant for Southwest Community Park

Naperville Park District has been awarded a $400,000 grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources to assist in development of Southwest Community Park, located at 3252 Wolf’s Crossing Road.

In a press release issued by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, Governor Pritzker said, “Investments in Illinois’ local parks makes it easier for families and recreation enthusiasts to enjoy our state’s beauty and help their communities thrive.”

Naperville Park District’s project is one of the 89 projects funded by the Open Space Lands Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) grant program in 2019. The program is funded from a dedicated percentage of the state’s Real Estate Transfer Tax. OSLAD funds are matched one-to-one with local funds, creating jobs and enriching the quality of life for communities across the state.

“This grant will help fund the timely development of Southwest Community Park to bring outdoor recreation to the fastest growing area of Naperville,” said Executive Director Ray McGury.

Naperville Park District began seeking community input on the design of the future park in early 2018. Following several public meetings and an online survey, the District incorporated feedback from approximately 2,000 participants to help create a master plan for the park in summer 2018. Features planned for the park include a playground, extensive trails, nature areas, sports fields and courts, the District’s first splash pad, a challenge course and a multi-purpose hill.

The community is invited to celebrate the groundbreaking of the new project this summer. The date of the groundbreaking will be announced later in the spring. Southwest Community Park is located at 3252 Wolf’s Crossing Road.  Project information updates may be viewed at https://www.napervilleparks.org/parks/southwestcommunitypark.
