Your Board
The Naperville Park District is an independent municipal agency established in 1966 through a public referendum. Since then, the Park District has been committed to enriching community life through leisure experiences.
A seven member Board of Commissioners, elected at-large by Naperville voters, governs the organization; each serves a four-year term. Currently, Commissioner Andrew Schaffner is serving a two-year term (2009-2011) to fulfill the unexpired term that became vacant due to the retiring of a Park Board member in 2008.
Board meetings are held on the second Thursday of every month at 7:00 p.m. "Matters from the Public" is a permanent agenda item that allows the public to comment on park district operations.
An Executive Director, who is hired by the Board, manages the day-to-day operations of the District. Under the director's management, a staff of over 100 full-time professionals oversees park operations, recreation programs, policing, planning, marketing, business and finance, employee services, community relations, golf services and facilities and vehicle maintenance. More than 1,100 part-time and seasonal employees lend their support to the District's operations, programs and services.
