2008 Rules and General Information

Rules For Your Safety

A complete listing of all Centennial Beach Safety Rules can be found here and at the entrances into Centennial Beach.

  • Infants and toddlers who are not toilet-trained must wear swim diapers approved by the Department of Public Health. Swim diapers are available for purchased on site at the Centennial Beach Store.
  • Parents or guardians age 13 or over are responsible for supervising children are seven or under. Lifeguards are on duty to enforce rules and respond in case of an emergency.
  • Only U.S. Coast Guard approved floatation devices are allowed. Centennial Beach does offer a limited number of floatation devices for use by all patrons

Staff reserves the right to move a swimmer if he or she is not swimming at the appropriate speed.

Beach Closings

On occasion the beach will be closed before the regularly scheduled session due to air temperature falling below 65 degrees, rain, lightning, and other threatening weather conditions. The Beach will close for any situation that would jeopardize the health/safety of the people present. A closure may also happen due to lack of attendance.

Deep Water and Diving Boards

Due to the depth and length of Centennial Beach, we are very strict about the swimming requirements for our deep end and diving board area. Any swimmer who has not graduated from the 8th grade will be required to pass a deep water test before they are allowed in the deep end or allowed to use the diving boards. All swimmers will be required to swim a total distance of 100 meters using the front crawl stroke. (This distance is two lengths of the lap lanes.)

The deep water test will be offered at noon, 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. daily. Due to the staffing that is required to offer this test, we are only able to test patrons three times daily.

The Beach staff reserves the right to remove any swimmer, no matter what age, from the deep end if he or she appears to be tired or struggling while swimming.

Personal Floatation Devices

ONLY Coast Guard approved floatation devices are permitted in the beach. There are a limited amount available at the guardhouse.

Smoke Free

Centennial Beach is a smoke free facility. No smoking will be permitted on the grounds or inside the Bathhouse. We appreciate your cooperation.
