Park District to Host Hunters Woods Project Open House on Feb. 27
Naperville Park District invites the public to attend a Feb. 27 open house to learn more about a pond restoration project planned to begin in spring 2017 at Hunters Woods, a park located at 2007 Lakeview Court.
The open house will be held in the Program Room of the Naper Boulevard Library, located at 2035 S. Naper Boulevard on Monday, February 27, 2017 from 5:30-7:00 p.m. Park District staff and project engineers will be on hand to answer questions. Residents are welcome to attend at any time during the open house; there will not be a formal presentation.
The project consists of removal of sediment from the park’s pond (retention basin), which has filled with material over approximately 30 years. In addition to sediment removal, the work involves excavation of an eight foot deep channel between the basin inlet and outlet locations, adjacent to residential properties along the south side of the park. As part of the project, contractors will install aerators, regrade and reseed the pond’s shoreline with a native plant mixture, and store the sediment material excavated from the basin in large sediment filter bags onsite. After the drainage process, the sediment will be sculpted into vegetative berms on the north side of Hunters Woods.
The Park District completed a similar project at Knoch Knolls Park in 2013-14, restoring the pond adjacent to Knoch Knolls Nature Center.
