Naperville Park District Offers 2017-18 Holiday Lights Recycling at 3 Locations

The Naperville Park District announces its 7th annual holiday lights recycling program in partnership with Elgin Recycling, beginning Nov. 17, 2017 and ending Feb. 1, 2018.

Residents and businesses are invited to bring their old, nonworking lights to any of three locations throughout the District.

In 2016, Naperville Park District joined with52 villages, 3 other park districts, 1 non-profit, 4 libraries, 2 churches and 5 businesses in the region to help Elgin Recycling collect 103,243 lbs. of holiday lights. This year’s goal is to keep 125,000 lbs. of lights out of the landfill.

The following types of lights will be accepted: Mini-lights, C-7 lights, C-9 lights, Rope lights, LED lights and extension cords. All colors and lengths will be accepted.

The following Park District locations will be collecting lights for recycling:

·         Alfred Rubin Riverwalk Community Center, located at 305 W. Jackson Ave. Hours of operation are: Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

·         Fort Hill Activity Center, located at 20 Fort Hill Drive. Hours of operation are: Monday-Friday, 5:00 a.m.-10:00 p.m., Saturday, 6:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m. and Sunday, 7:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m.

·         Knoch Knolls Nature Center, located at 320 Knoch Knolls Rd. Hours of operation through November are: Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m., Saturday, 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. and Sunday 11:00 a.m. -3:00 p.m. Please note that the Nature Center will be closed on Sundays in December, January and February.


Residents can drop off holiday lights in recycling containers such as this one at the Alfred Rubin Riverwalk Community Center.
