Bright colors, springy surfaces, inviting high bars and soft landings…all these and more await eager participants in the gymnastics programs at Fort Hill Activity Center.

“Young children have so much fun in our gymnastics room,” said Gymnastics Coordinator Karen Schmidt. “Our programs are based on fun and safety, with mats everywhere and equipment that is modified for size,” she explained.

The state-of-the-art gymnastics room at Fort Hill Activity Center is perfect for beginners all the way up to high school gymnasts, who can work on advanced skills in all events.

“Our equipment gives students the support they need to feel secure and learn correct technique from the beginning,” said Karen. “Progressing through our program, kids move up with teacher permission, so they grow in confidence as they grow in strength, body awareness and skill.”

Tumbl Trak and Foam Pit

One of the new pieces of equipment that kids love is the Tumbl Trak, a 30-foot long, 6-foot-wide trampoline that sits on the edge of the colorful foam pit. Three-year-olds learn to bounce all the way down the length of the Trak, and it’s great for teaching handsprings and front flips, landing in the foam pit. The pit also provides a safe landing for the high bar, vault, spring floor and beam.

Spring Floor and Wedges

The large spring floor gives beginning tumblers the extra boost to try and succeed at cartwheels and handsprings. The padded equipment, such as the wedge, helps teach correct positioning and prepares gymnasts for tumbling moves. Young children enjoy the obstacle course, with climbing boards, trapezes, tunnels and more.

Jump In and Try a Class or Open Gym

Classes have been added at all levels to accommodate the growing interest.  Spring Break Gymnastics Camps are nearly full, but there are spots available in the spring season (April- early June) in the Gym Cats program for ages 1-6, and Gymnastics and Tumbling programs for kids ages 6-14, plus a class for high school girls, ages 14-18. And a variety of Summer Gymnastics Camps will pack a month’s worth of weekly gymnastics training into each week of camp.

Open gyms in the gymnastics room are scheduled each week  for kids ages 4-15 on Friday evening from 5:30-7:00 p.m. and for high school ages only on Sunday from 4:00-6:00 p.m.
