Frontier Sports Complex South Maintenance Facility - LEED Certification received LEEDŽ Silver Certification under the U.S. Green Building Council's LEED-NC 2.1 rating system. Staff, consultants, and contractors worked with the assistance of a generous grant from the Illinois Clean Energy Community Foundation to achieve this certification. The Park District is leading the way toward its goal of environmental stewardship with what is now the first LEED building in Naperville.
What is LEED?
The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System encourages and accelerates global adoption of sustainable green building and development practices through the creation and implementation of universally understood and accepted tools and performance criteria. LEED is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings. LEED gives building owners and operators the tools they need to have an immediate and measurable impact on their buildings' performance. LEED also promotes a whole-building approach to sustainability by recognizing performance in five key areas of human and environmental health: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality.
LEED has various levels of certification. These include Certified, Silver, Gold, and Platinum. Though the District hoped for the Certified level, the project team was able, through research and innovation, to achieve a higher level of certification: Silver.
The South Maintenance Facility is an example to the community of our continuing commitment to environmental stewardship. For more information about the green innovations, download this pamphlet or visit the facility.
