Ron Ory
Ron Ory has been a Naperville Park District commissioner since 1995. Ron served in the United States Army for 21 years, returning to his home town of Naperville in 1989. Prior to his election, he served in various capacities at the two Park District golf courses, working both on the courses and in the clubhouses. During that time he also volunteered for many District committees including the 1991 Strategic Planning Committee and the 1993 successful Referendum Committee. As a commissioner, he served as the District’s treasurer for many years, the finance committee’s chair, and on the Riverwalk Commission.
An avid gardener, Ron is a past-president of the Naperville Community Gardeners, winning the “Best of Show” award at their annual Flower and Garden Show. He has rented a garden plot for many years and has been a certified Master Gardener for 15 years with the University of Illinois’ DuPage County extension. He recently moved into a small house with a big lot where he has been extensively landscaping the yard with over 1,500 plants.
When he isn’t gardening or serving the community, Ron continues to hone his nature photography skills, adding to the 25,000+ nature slides from around the world. Additionally, he has traveled along many of the National Historic Trails, and was invited to provide many of the photographs for the National Park Service’s Trail Guide for the Juan Bautista de Anza National Historic Trail.
